FameLab Sardegna, the science contest for students, PhD students and researchers, is come back in Sardinia.
FameLab is the science contest that brings researchers on stage to talk about their research in an unconventional way: three minutes of time, no slides; objects, musical instruments are allowed. The contest is open to students, PhD students, post-docs and researchers in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics”) from 21 to 40 years old.
FameLab, the talent show of science
Conceived in 2005 by the Cheltenham Science Festival, FameLab now involves over 30 countries worldwide and since 2012 takes place in Italy thanks to the collaboration between Psiquadro, national coordinator, and British Council Italy, the cultural organization that promotes British dissemination in every part of the world.
From 2012 to today, FameLab Italia is organized in 20 cities involving over 900 young researchers thanks to a collaboration with more than 70 cultural partners between universities, research and public institutes, science communication companies, museums and media partners.
FameLab Italia 2020 involves 15 cities. The local finalists will participate in a national masterclass in science communication in preparation of the national final in Trieste and the international final in Cheltenham (UK).
FameLab Sardinia
After three years of absence, the event returns to Sardinia embracing the whole island. Three cities are involved: Cagliari, Sassari and Nuoro. In Italy, the event is organized and promoted by the company Psiquadro. In Sardinia, the event is organized by a collaboration of regional institutions: the Cagliari section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), which is also the project coordinator, the INAF – Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, the Department of Physics and Piano Lauree Scientifiche – Fisica (PLS) of the University of Cagliari, the University of Sassari, the Municipality of Nuoro, the Nuorese University Consortium, CRS4, the IDeAS and Laboratorio Scienza associations.
The contest is organized in two preselections, in Cagliari and Sassari, and a regional final in Nuoro.
All the participants will also have the opportunity to participate to a free masterclass in scientific dissemination held by the experts of Psiquadro.
The first and second classified will partecipate at a masterclass in Perugia and at the national final in Trieste.
